![]() Hi Greg, The only problem I had with the car was the starter motor which at
times used to have a intermittent problem turning the engine, I did take it off but could find no reason why it did not work every time. Subsequently, I did here that the person who had it after me had a complete failure when it split in half. A more modern one with reduction gearing sounds like a better bet. Regards, and good luck. ![]() I have a 411-7526, and bought my reduction starter motor from here (USA):
Motor City Reman (motorcityreman@comcast.net) I think 'CALIFORNIA BOB' - recommended this. Mine has been in my car for about 3 years and I have had no problems. |

![]() Greg,
I tried to find one a while back A 318 unit is quite easy to source, but the 313 unit has a different flange and pinion I found one company who could maybe make the flange and pinion, but no certainty or price. I stripped my standard unit cleaned it cleaned the comm and bedded in new brushes. I also stripped the solenoid and cleaned the contacts and fitted a heavier cable. I also refitted the earth cable. So far no problems. Starting problems are seldom the motor itself, but all the associated other elements. David Last edited by Kevin H; 17-02-10 at 01:07 AM. Reason: removed email artefacts |

![]() I'm surprised there's a difference between the 313 and 318, they are essentially the same engine, although the transmission did change between the 408 and 408 Mk2 - maybe that's why the flange is different?
Either that or the starter you were looking at David was for a 318 LA engine, and not the older A engine which Bristol used. Unfortunately many people refer to the LA engine as an A engine, which is guaranteed to cause confusion! |
