Maeter,
Thanks for posting this 400 chassis 474 in Japan.
Reading through the Auctioneer's text there are a few statements that are incorrect.
This 400 left the BAC factory on the 20/6/1950 with body colour "Maroon" .
They indicated it was "off white" and displayed at the Olympia Motor Show, researching Google I found the last Olympia show was in 1936 , from 1937 - 1976 it was at Earls Court .
The "off white" Bristol 400 at the 1949 Earls Court show was 400 chassis 620.
They also state that 487 Bristol 400 were produced , but the factory documents I have show 421 standard bodied 400 plus 4 Prototypes (2 coupes and two Dropheads) , plus about 6 chassis that were sent to other coachbuilders like Farina, Touring, Van den Plas and Langenthal.
This type of misinformation is typical of many auction houses!!!!
This 400/474 was despatched to Anthony Crook Motors on 20/6/1950, registered in June 1950 as "OPF2" to Mr H.R.Taylor . It is believed in 1952 the car was sent to the Emir of Bahrain and returned to the UK c1987.
It was registerd "CSK967" cNov 1990 and competed in the 1991 Monte Carlo Challenge . It was put up for auction with Coy's on 22/3/93 and again on the 18/9/95 . I assume this is when it was exported to Japan .
I'd like to hear from anyone who has additional information about 400/474 .
