But surely that's for the whole ball joint? (although it's gone up a lot - last time I enquired they were £200).

Do Bristol not sell just the rubber covers for the ball joints?

They certainly used to. When I bought mine they were £37 each, but that was probably 8-9 years ago.

I know it seems a lot for a bit of moulded rubber, but the those ball joints are clearly worth protecting!

Peter,
I had these replaced in in our 410 during restoration but we had to get these from BCL.

I think that for 37 GBP, you get what they term is a repair kit - that's
what they sent me when I needed some 409 ones. However, I showed the
rubber gaiter to a local garage and they got the two gaiters for just A$20
and they fitted perfectly, so worth a look first

If it helps with the later car, the lower ball joint repair kits for the
409, sent by BCL are marketed by Prestige Parts with Part no UR73256KT
Pack says " Quality components for Rolls Royce and Bentley " They were
invoiced as TR8374 at GBP46 each. Contents - gaiter, two circlips and some
plastic/nylon bushes.

The Gaiters I bought locally in SA came in bags with a makers name begining
with K.
If a loan of my kits here in Australia or further info needed pls let me
know

I also have two UPPER gaiters to suit 409 - BCL sent 4 upper instead of
two upper and two lower.
If they can help with a later car,let me know - happy to loan them to an
Australian member.

Also, Claude over in NZ has a wide array of front bushes and kits excess to
requirements that he wished to dipsose of a while back

I am looking for lower ball joints for my 408 Mk1. I know Jaguar will work for the upper (as mentioned above) and the rebuild kit mentioned above is still available but I suspect ther lower ones were a stock item used by some other manufacturer - did anybody find an alternate 3rd party part for this?

A little research suggests that the UR73256K kit is suitable for: 1965-1980 RR Silver Shadow I, II & Bentley T1, T2. Unconfirmed, but could be a good place to start.

Prestige Parts shows this part number is for seats and seals. The gaiter can be obtained seperately (Part No. UR13269SA)

Thanks. I think I'll be OK without rebuilding them. They are operating smoothly and there's an adjustment screw in the bottom to take up any excess plaay.
