On the vast majority of cars that have this fitted it is Alcantara and is synthetic suede-effect material although I am not sure on the high spec Land Rovers which have similar trim to the high spec Jaguars. It does feel and look luxurious in car interiors whether it is man-made or not, but DFS seem to like using it on their cheap-looking sofas these days which spoils the exclusivity!

I had an Audi that had it covering the seats and it started bobbling after 50k miles so it is not hard wearing enough for sitting on. Mercedes used to offer a similar material called Amaretta for the w126 S-Class seats but it is rare to find a car with this as it was as expensive as the leather/velour option.
