looks ok to me. most 411 people reckon the S2 is the one to have. Nice to find yet another "unknown" Bristol via this forum. The chassis number fits the sequence between 7603.95 and 7605.101 Only the first 4 numbers are in direct sequence, the last 3 go up in 3s, as I expect most of you know. The reason for this little "trick" I leave up to people's imagination. By the way the engine number will be E 383-359, not E 783-359, as 383 is the engine size in cubic inches. Probably the best Chrysler engine fitted to any Bristol - how's that for controversy! best of luck with it. I do know some people in Germany who might be able to help you with it. Andrew Blow. "most 411 S2 people reckon the S2 is the one to have" Everyone knows the S5 is the best 411, although I suppose it has been eclipsed by the S6! Frankly I don't know how anyone could determine the condition of the car from those photos. It could be all fine, but then it could just as easily require a lot of work costing many thousands of euros. Ideally you need to get it on a hoist or over a pit and check thoroughly underneath. Would be a good idea to do a compression text on each of the engine cylinders. What's the oil pressure reading when cold and at normal running temp? Does everything work? heater, wipers, electric windows, cooling fans, brakes! If it hasn't been used for a long time there's a good chance the brake caliper pistons will be rusty and the calipers will need to be overhauled and/or the master cylinder. Any competent mechanic should be able to do an inspection - doesn't really have to be a Bristol specialist. However, someone who doesn't know Bristols would not know to check the top and bottom front coil spring seats are okay. see this thread |

you're right, the engine number is E 383-359. Kevin you're also right. These pics can only show an impression, may be -cause of the external rust- it's a "biscuit-car", as we say in german for the bodywork, when it's over. What you see is mostly the top of an iceberg and it's the question of a total restoration or perhaps you can leave the car in the condition as it is. (By the way, the car was driven till december 09) I think, the technical/mechanical part is relatively easy to restore. For me, it's not only the question of the "selling price" in relation to the restoration costs for this rare car. Let you know my decision in the next days. Thank for your replies. Günter |
