I have owned my 1953 Bristol 401 (Reg. LHO 401) since 1970. It was regularly serviced by specialists R.F. Fuggle, Ltd., of Bushey, Herts., then stored with the renowned restorers T.T. Workshops, Westbury, Wilts while I worked in TV in Los Angeles. They carried out a full chassis-up restoration, leaving it stripped ready for painting, wiring and re-upholstering, with engine replaced in a restored engine compartment, but disconnected. That cost me in excess of £14,000 - but would be much more at today's rates. It has remained stored in a dry London lock-up with removed parts packed - including a new wiring loom.
I have all service and restoration records and bills, as well as the original Owner's Handbook.
I invite offers from those who appreciate the realities of completing high quality restoration - Bristol Cars recently advertised a restored 401 at £39,000.
I might consider some form of shared ownership, allowing me occasional use, in return for completion.
I'm in no hurry, since I'm recovering from surgery and due to undergo more, so the car can't be viewed yet and is in a crowded garage. But I will contact serious applicants at a later date. Please don't enquire if you are just broadly interested, because I can't tolerate timewasters!
