![]() That adds credence to my speculation on why it was on the left side on 3004. remember, the 404 for the home market was RHD. The tubing for the brake lines and chassis lube would have run along the right side frame rail, so it made sense to put the data plate on the left side. I suspect that the factory continued with normal procedure on the early cars until somebody realized it made more sense to put it on the right side for the LHD chassis.

![]() 3004 is definitely on the drivers side frame rail of this LHD car, and it seems from the posts that it is on the drivers side of 3003 as well.
