Des Molloy sent me this recently....

WARNING:

The Bristol 406 engine listing that scammed money from me a couple of years ago is back on Craigs List.
AC ACEFRASER NASHBRISTOL 406 ENGINE AND GEAR BOX ETC

THIS IS A SCAM. DO NOT BE TEMPTED. I WAS TRICKED INTO SENDING A DEPOSIT BEFORE I STARTED TO GET BAD VIBES AND REALISED I WAS BEING TAKEN

And the Dundee site has the banner 'Avoid scams and fraud by dealing locally! '

Why not report this to Dundee's Trading Standards Dept.?
What We Do in Trading Standards - Dundee City Council

Scottish trading standards' departments are quite hot on this sort of thing.

There have been several of these scams over the years and I was caught out by one a couple of years ago. I hope you have reported to the necessary advert carriers etc. As this, if it is a scam, would be a straightforward fraud.

Hi Folks,

I'm only 20 mins fae Dundee & can check if eng/box actually exists & is 2.2 lump. We may only be looking at one of the many dodgy dealing Dundonians, who have reputation similar to Scousers, bar less capacity fer work & more capacity for seeming dodgy!

Anybody ken the form of and range of serial numbers for the 110 block/head for 1959 or thereabouts?

I can mic up the crank & look at bores, but presume both will need machined.

Anyone got specs/tolerances for both, as well as machining limits?

Which carbs should be with it?

Where do I look for cracks or other near-terminal problems with block & head?

In the meantime, we'll see what happens if I try to arrange to view!

Rob
