Heater core Bristol 411 S5 (and others)

Hello,

I am looking for a new heater core/matrix for my 411 S5. Coleman classic cars have commissioned them, but the price is on the high side (just my personal impression). Does someone know if the matrix is shared with other British cars?

Regards

Thomas

Hi Thomas,
Are you looking for the matrix core itself, or the whole heater box with flaps and control levers?

It is possible (maybe likely) that the matrix core itself is common to other heater boxes, but not the box itself. I note that in the heater repair document authored by David Billington he says:

"to repair the box, I purchased a similar second-hand heater from a BMC specialist for £29. I cut away the rotted sections and had sections from the donor heater box welded in their place, then I exchanged the relevant linkages"

As an alternative, you could consider replacing the heater box with an air conditioning unit which provides heating and cooling?

Regards,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

I overhauled my heather box with new seals etc, but still the output is meager.
Therefore I am only looking for the matrix core.
My idea of a “BMC-Standard” core comes from the Daving Billington article.

My car came originally from the factory with a AC fitted, which I would like to keep, as it still works well.

Regards

Thomas

Hi Thomas
On my 410 I sent the matrix away to these guys who were recommended by someone on here.. https://www.aaronradiator.co.uk/classic-heaters/ who did a good job. Once engine warmed up, output is certainly sufficient for me! Miles better than before it was done.
Cheers
Andrew
