Pepperpot Wheel Badges
1 Attachment(s)
I suspect I'm not alone in preferring the look of the Pepperpot wheels as used on 80's jags to the Avon Safety wheels.
But what about the centre clip and badge? The clips are available - part no CAC 6442 from eg Norman Motors. As for the centre badge I asked an engraver I have used a number of times to re-create the logo (attached) in brushed stainless with black infill which can then be inserted into the clips. In round numbers - ex VAT and postage - they work out at £25 each for a set of 4, dropping to £18 each if say 20 are ordered. Is anyone interested, or is this just my own folly? |
I have Kent alloys on one of my 603's and the caps can take a standard size Bristol enamel badge of this style. My other 603 has Pepperpots and at the moment I have the standard silver Jaguar head centre badges. I had not really looked at them until you mentioned the clips are available separately and now I can see the badge fits in from behind so I assume quite a bit of its rim is obscured where it fits into the clip. This would have to be allowed for to make the silver outer rim visible and the word Bristol without cutting off the tops of the letters so its going to be a lot smaller than the standard Bristol badge, might it be better to just on the Bristol shield? What diameter were you planning to have them made?

I like the idea and it seems remarkably good value. I don't have anything new enough to need any for my cars but I hope you find enough takers to get some made.

MkII thoughts
The size of the clip in badge is 47.8 mm, the size of the hole in the clip 47.2 so there is only 0.3 mm or so all round holding the badge in the clip. But the clip is of course itself wedged into the wheel.
So not much of the design is obscured by the clip. However you may be right to think that it is all a bit fussy, so I have sketched it out with the shield only on a black background. The outer diameter to the white circle is the clip, the inner black circle with shield is the badge. The shield is the same height as the original growler logo I think that looks OK........and it should be cheaper. I'll get it costed out |
OK who forgot the attachment?

Oops, never done that before

I like that, the shield on its own is very discreet and a good match for the steering wheel centre of the 411 and 603's, possibly the later cars as well.
