Default Wanted: Engine and gearbox for my 400

For quite some years I´m the proud owner of a unrestored Bristol 400. Finally I have found enough time to start this massive project. However before I want to start, I would like to buy an engine and gearbox which the car is currently missing.

In theory, any of the Bristol six-cylinder engines could be installed in the 400. So I’m looking for an engine in the 85, 110 or 110 series.

Does anyone know an engine and gearbox for sale that doesn´t set me back 15/20k?

Since I have experience with rebuilding engines I‘m not looking for a fully restored engine per se. As long as the engine is more or less complete and will turn I’ll probably be fine.

Thanks

Rick ,
where are you located?
I have a complete 85C engine & gearbox from a 401 that needs rebuilding
Could you also advise details of your 400 , chassis number and any previous registered numbers

Hello Geoff,

It´s a second series type 400. I´ll look the chassis number up this weekend.

Great that you have an engine and gearbox. What is the story behind these parts? Could you perhaps send some pictures?

Rik,
The engine and gearbox is from a 401 that was parted out about 40 years ago .
The engine is in pieces and will need rebuilding .
The block has no cracks and head has almost no corrosion
The gearbox condition is unknown .
I suggest we correspond further outside of the forum.
