I suppose it boils down to the Bristol notion that manual operation is failsafe and therefore it is unnecessary to offer electric operation. Maybe this sounds a bit of a cop out? They used to have the same argument that their ventilation systems were so good you didnt need a/c.
I remember the early series 1 603's used to have full elec adjustment of the front seats with auto tilt locking. For the series 2, auto locking and the elec recline mechanism was deleted suggesting this was a problematic piece of equipment.
