Re: Closed "Water Ingress", and new leather...

'Fraid I had to resort to Wikipedia once again....
Man-made fabric 68% polyester/32% urethane made by Alcantara SpA in Nera
Montoro, Italy.
Looks very tacky in a Ford Mondeo, but who wouldn't?

Re: Closed "Water Ingress", and new leather...

Ah, I believe we have that stuff on parts of the door panels of our
Discovery. Is it in fact suede (animal skin) or a synthetic material?

Car hire Geneva?

I usually book the cheapest car. These are the first to sell out so you
usually get a free upgrade. They never have the car you want anyway.
Last time I did get the cheapest one, a Peugeot 107. It...

Car hire Geneva?

If you like Hertz, try booking through Ryanair www.ryanair.com. They do
great deals on hotels too.
You don't have to fly Ryanair (at least to book) car rentals, but I got a
mouthful on Malta last...

Series 1 Discovery overheating problem

Kevin,
Thermostats either work, or the wax has leaked out. Pan of hot water will
clean it too!
The fans will cut in long after the thermostat should have opened, so
leaving it out will not change...

Series 1 Discovery overheating problem

Is this a Sunday morning quiz Kevin?
You didnt say which Disco and which engine.
My Disco II TD5 did this last year. Annoyingly it also has an idiot-proof
electronic cut-out device that leaves you...

Free Speedo check

Aha! I will try this on my old Land Rover when the weather improves -
hadn't thought of the cable being the culprit.
Mine waived around but then stopped close to it's top speed of about 40 mph....

6 cyl Gaskets (head)

You shouldn't complain.
Just send them back.
Having to credit you (in a small company) is probably punishment enough.

6 cyl Gaskets (head)

Geoff,
Please be kind enough to let me know the web address - we have 3 Landy's so
can contribute statistical proof as well!
I was told I had their first leaky sunroof, twice!
Speaking of Land...

6 cyl Gaskets (head)

Well spotted that man! Of course it was written in German, not german. But
then Ian wrote that.
But we still don't know what Bristol said Eric?

6 cyl Gaskets (head)

Now Eric for once I do agree with you.
It might even have been me that mentioned the BMW 328 but simply as a guess,
and because the packaging was written in german, wasn't it?
Doesn't someone know...

Crate engine

I was joking Paul!
One would need a huge amount of data to calculate something like this, even
if the vehicle remained in 1st gear and no wheel spin.
Easiest just to try it, but as someone remarked,...

Crate engine

According to my calculations Paul, on a slightly steeper incline with some
crosswind, but a skinny driver, that would put it at just about 700 HP
wouldn't it?.
Oh, I forgot, what does the car weigh?

Supercharged Bristol Special

I see Greg. Or do I?
Doesn't a car (the chassis at least) have to have been a Bristol at one time
in order to call it a Bristol Special?
I see the article does later refer to it as a Michell...

Bristol in Baja

Isn't it something to do with the fact that modern engines won't run
anyway if the battery is flat?
Plus the fact the crankshaft usually faces one of the front wheels....

Jaguar XJR

Does anyone know about the Jaguar XJR (Supercharged) cars, around the year
2000?
Seems like an amazingly cheap car. Are there big pitfalls to watch out for?
Thanks!

I guess this then is because Ethanol is hygroscopic?

400 carbs heating

Dear Bellerophon,

Manifold, duct, tract, all the same idea I guess? One way or another, if you
have 6 cylinders and 3 carbs, you will have to split the flow somehow.
I don't think using the exhaust...

400 carbs heating

I can't follow this reasoning at all, Bellerophon.
Massive heat sinks? Glowing manifolds? (Do you mean inlet?).
If the engine is running well normally, and the car has a manual advance and
retard, I...

403 Barn Find!

Aren't these just standard knock-ons? Bolt-on wires sound very tacky,
American even.
The ones in the photo require an octagonal spanner. Often you see the
illegal winged type which give you...

WARNING Faulty 2 Litre engine cylinder head gaskets

Eric,
This gasket looks well made and its age (unused) is irrelevant.
It presumably fits other engines, where that one hole is not required.
This is no longer amusing.
In my opinion you are a...
