409 for sale

If someone did not want the entire car, the parts alone are well worth the price. How much is a new windshield? A new fender? A correct steering wheel? I would hate to see the car parted out but I do...

Disassembled 409

The steel sheet metal (not the body) could be patched in the front. The rust in the rear is more serious. The trunk and wheel well areas should be replaced.

The front of the body is in good...

Removing unit body

Giles: Tried a 12 lb. lead hammer; torch; rust release.

No luck so I drilled out the bolt...began with a 1/8th inch drill bit and worked up to the full diameter of the bolt. Worked perfectly. Once...

Advice on removing 409 roof

Question regarding removing the roof on my 409: do I need to cut out the rivets above the windshield that attach the roof to the sheet metal inside te cabin? I'm thinking I do but I thought I'd ask...

Removing body on 409

Rear section of the body is removed. Roof is next.

I'll rely on a professional to weld it all back together eventually.

Front section removed in one piece

I was able to remove the front section in a single piece. This was accomplished with only minimal unbending at the rear of the fenders (wings) and no unbending required for the body in front of the...

Removing body from chassis

For California Bristol: What kind of torch did you use to unbend the flanges? My small propane torch apparently does not get the metal hot enough to bend. I'm considering using MAG or Mag/Oxygen but...

Removing suspension unit body

Giles,
I've been able to pry the rear of the unit body down about a half inch but it appears to be binding. The front of the unit won't release. Does it need to need to come straight out on all six...

CaliforniaBristol:

Thank you for your information. I was also inspired by Per's work.

That is an interesting idea to cut vertically at the rear fenders. And your pictures are very helpful. I'm...

Separating 409 body from chassis

I've removed pretty much all the rivets mounting the body. I would be interested in any suggestions on removing the body ... what needs to be bent for example. Can the front by removed as a single...

Rain gutter removal on 411

Left side successfully removed without drama ... it literally fell off when I drilled out the last rivet. 22 out of 25 screwed out. Three had to be drilled out. Now time for the wood.

rain gutter removal

Thank you for the pictures. It does try your patience.

I did attempt to drill one screw to remove with an easy-out. That might be my only option at this point.

Hopefully the screws on the other...

rain gutter removal

All but eight of the 23 screws are out on one side. The last ones won't give. I can see now that removing the wood strips should be straightforward once the rain gutters are out.

Rain gutter removal

I've removed four of these screws so far on my 409 and uncovered several more. It's not difficult if you use a magnet to find them. However they are really difficult to screw out. Is there a hidden...

Suggestions on removing suspension unit body

Thank you, Giles.

I'll keep oiling and tapping until it comes off. These are the last two items left on the body/chassis.

Trouble drilling out screws on 409

The screws attaching the plated brass window frame are hopelessly corroded and many will need to be drilled out. The ones I can access from behind aren't a problem but the others won't budge. I've...

Fuel tank sending unit

Geoff.

Thank you. I see the six holes to mount it now.

If the 603 is same as the 409, I certainly could use it. Let me know what you would need for it.
