For sale 1972 Bristol 411 V8

There is a 411 for sale on Bring a Trailer

Did not make it

The bidding on this got to $36,000 (c. £24,200), but clearly not enough to tempt the seller to sell.

Certainly looks good in parts, but quite a bit of expense looming for the prospective buyer.

I bought it!

I was one of the bidders on this car, and followed up with the seller and just bought it.
It arrives on the transporter today. I am interested in Geo's comment about a looming expense!

Do not get me wrong, I am jealous! Many things do look to be excellent and, anyway, one cannot really tell until the vehicle is standing in one's own garage in the cold light of day.

Naturally, it all depends upon what condition you wish it to be and how you are going to use it. All the Bristols I owned in the past were very much working cars that were used on a virtually daily basis and as my 'normal' car, thus I restored them with an eye to reliability above all other considerations. Other choose other routes to Bristol ownership and presumably gather as much enjoyment out of those approaches.

Do keep up informed as to how you progress with this.

Good luck,

George

Green 411

Thanks George,

It is a very nice car. One or two minor things, but nothing major.
The previous owner took great care of the car for two decades.
My current focus is finding the two heater knobs which are missing!

Yes, I got the impression from the advertisement that the then current owner had taken care of the car. Had I been on your side of the Atlantic, I would have been more tempted myself!

On the subject of the heater knobs, have you tried Bristol Cars? They often surprise with items like this as they will not have had much call on these over the years and might still have some in stock.

Enjoy your new purchase.

George

Two weeks ago I drove the 411 up to Stowe, Vermont for the "British Invasion".
840 miles in three days, typically at 85 mph. It drove perfectly, with a good 20 mile stretch, around the ton, following an Alfa GTV, south of the Canadian border.
It is a very relaxing long distance tourer, and I am delighted I bought it.
