Default In period race history for V8?

I was wondering whether any of the eight cylinder Bristols were used in competition. I would expect the automatic transmission might have been an issue but with the V8, I expect it might have been possible. I'm thinking of the Iso Rivolta that usually was provided with an automatic transmission but was raced as a touring car when it first was introduced. It featured a 327 Corvette engine.

Anatoly Aruntonoff raced a 410 in the 1975 sea to shining sea Cannonball Run. Came in 18th, according to Wikipedia, with a time of 49½ hours.

I wonder what modifications he made to the car for the race.
