Default 406 axle question

Hi there,

I am trying to find a definitive answer to the type of axle fitted to a 406.
I have seen it stated clearly that the car has a Salisbury 2HA axle, and also stated clearly that is has a salisbury 3HA. The 406 parts book reinforces my confusion by including parts numbers starting with both 2HA and 3HA (see image).

I would appreciate it if someone could clarify, thanks.

Dave

Dave,
I have never seen a BCL 406 Workshop manual , if there was ever one produced, but see scanned copy from Newnes Motor Repair covering a multitude of Brands .
It clearly states "3HA"

Thanks Geoff. That document is very clear. This comment from a previous post may well be mistaken then:

"The 406 Diff is a Salisbury 2HA type which are quite (very) common - SKF actually do off the shelf kits for them. Sorry I don't have the modern part numbers to hand (the original Salisbury part number for the seal is 2HA-019), but any diff specialist that does work on Jags (or MGBs) is likely to have the parts on the shelf."

Dave hi, I have 2 spare back axles and from the refurbished work done on my existing axle by Spencers, I believe it is a 2HA. The only id I can find cast into the cover plate is 406 I 30062. If you would like anything checking just ask.
Regards Stewart

Thanks Stewart, that's kind and potentially very helpful. Doesn't clear up the confusion though
