403 Front Wing wheel arch strengthener

I've had a new nearside wing (just the vertical part) made by a retired panel beater. He has made a fabulous job, all done by hand, including wiring the edge. My question concerns the angled strengthener that fits inside the arch, just above the edge wire. Has anyone fabricated and fitted this? How is it attached? Any information on how to do it gratefully received.

Thanks

Mike

Redux bonding

An excellent way which does not involve welding or riveting is to bond/glue them.

One such is the Redux bond system which has been used in aircraft manufacture since 1940.

There are several other very successful bonding agents available many of them to do with the car industry.

That's what I'll do. I've followed up to see what's available in the UK and Pliogrip seems to be one to try.

Hi Mike

If it's any help, this is what I did with mine - copied what was there.

I assumed it was original ...

Thanks Mike. Looking at the photo of the complete front from underneath ,I can see the strengthener is fixed to the wing edge in several places. Is it aluminium welded or glued?

403 front wing strengtheners

Mike

I welded them in place.

I know modern adhesives are said to be brilliant but I'm to old to be sure.

There was so much work required on my car, I decided to buy a cheap TIG welder and taught myself to use it.

Best

Mike
